Gunder, an unincorporated village at the intersection of Gunder Road and Agate Road, between Postville, Elgin, and Elkader, Iowa has signs at its entrance proclaiming that it has a population of 36 people.

In the 1970's the former General Store was transferred into a tavern and renamed The Shanti, and burgers started being served.

In 2005 Kevin and Elsie Walsh purchased the well-established, already famous, Shanti from Brenda and Jeff Pfister and renamed it The Irish Shanti.  Combining their hospitality skills with their love of a good Irish pub, the Walshes have increased the selection of beers, added new items to the menu, and hung up their Irish picture collection and items from Gunder history.

The Irish Shanti provides top-notch Irish hospitality and homemade food at prices that can't be beat!  If you haven't been here before, its worth the trip!
